It has been founded mid 1998 by J. Faist (co-inventor of the Quantum Cascade Laser), M. Beck and A. Müller (CEO of Alpes Lasers). Alpes Lasers is the first company offering the emerging Unipolar Laser technology for spectroscopy applications.Alpes Lasers has a unique know how of more than thirty years of cumulated Unipolar Laser manufacturing. Alpes Lasers also offers its know how in designing and optimising systems based on Unipolar Laser technology. Alpes Lasers is incorporated as a SA under Swiss law and is located in Neuchâtel. In January 2006, Alpes Lasers acquired IPAG (Innovative Process AG), a former Deutsche Telecom spin-off, renamed ALtechnologies Gmbh. Located in Darmstadt (Germany), ALtechnologies provide FP and DFB laser for the wavelength range of 1300nm to 1650 nm, as well as epi-wafer and coating services for various optoelectronic devices until their facilities were adapted to produce epitaxial growth for QCLs. Thank to ALtechnologies, Alpes Lasers is exploiting the access to large volume production capabilities, technology and manufacturing capabilities for buried heterostructure semiconductor lasers as well as MOVPE wafer growth. As a result Alpes Lasers is now a leading company for Quantum Cascade Lasers for measurement and test applications as well as high speed laser diodes for telecom and datacom applications including epi-wafer, coating and process services.
